AmsterdamThere is so much more to Amsterdam than the Red Light District and Coffeeshops.

Where to begin…. oh yes, the shopping!!!

There is a shopping experience for everyone in Amsterdam. Most of the High Street stores are just off Dam Square. Nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat are both long narrow streets either side of Dam Square. Magna Plaza houses lots of lovely boutiques as well as high street store Mango. And if you’re interested in Designer and Vintage, the beautiful 9 Streets area is for you.  This area is beautifully decorated with lights – very romantic for a stroll.  This was how I got my Husband to go there. He thought we were going for a stroll but little did he know we were going shopping!

Next up… Food

Variety is the spice of life and Amsterdam is definitely not short on that! There is a cafe and a restaurant to suit everyone. My top faves are…

The Burger Bar – hands down the best burger chain ever! I made the mistake of ‘liking’ their Facebook page so I’m constantly drooling over their delicious burgers.

Argentinian Steak houses – They are everywhere and are all good if you fancy a good steak.

Vlaamse friet, Damrac – This is pretty much a hole in the wall for chips. Chips are served in a paper cone with your choice of sauce, and the dutch mayo is amazing! Portions are big so I wouldn’t order a large.

Things to do

Canal Tour – Its better to do during the day. Yes it’s lovely and picturesque at night with the lights, but you don’t see as much.

Red Tour Bus – It’s great if you want to see more of the city. And great for taking photos.

Museums – There’s a museum for everyone in Amsterdam. Rikz,Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Ann Frank museums are all highly recommended. And if you’re up for a bit fun, check out the Hash and Sex Museums.

Places to stay

Everywhere is within walking distance so there many options . Most hotels rooms are small unless you’re willing to spend a lot of money.

Eden is great, good value for money and very central (just off Rembrandtplein).

Double Tree Hilton is amazing. Stayed here when we got engaged as a treat but be warned its expensive. Located beside Centraal station. They have an amazing rooftop bar which has an excellent view of the city.

Love Foxy xo.
